Figma AI

Overview

Figma AI is an integrated set of AI features in Figma Design, FigJam, and Slides that helps designers turn ideas into wireframes, mockups, and prototypes faster using text prompts and smart actions. It supports tasks like generating UI layouts, rephrasing copy, creating prototypes, searching visuals, and fixing accessibility issues, acting as a design copilot rather than a separate tool.

Pricing

Included with Figma Plans (Beta)

  • During its ongoing beta, Figma AI is available across all main Figma plans (Starter, Professional, Organization, Enterprise) at no additional charge, subject to usage limits.
  • Access level and admin controls vary by plan; Organization and Enterprise get more governance and control options.

Figma Plan Costs (Indicative)

  • Professional plan: roughly 3–20 USD per seat per month depending on seat type (Collab, Dev, Full) and annual vs. monthly billing.
  • Organization and Enterprise plans: around 5–90 USD per seat per month (annual only) with advanced security, APIs, and design system features.

Future AI Pricing

  • Figma AI pricing is expected to align with Figma seat and plan tiers as it leaves beta, with possible usage-based or AI‑specific bundles for heavy users.

Key Features

  • Make Design (text-to-UI) – Generate UI layouts and screens from natural language prompts (e.g., “Create a modern SaaS dashboard with sidebar navigation”).
  • Make Prototype – Automatically connect frames and generate interactive flows and transitions based on existing screens and copy.
  • Visual search & image AI – Find components or designs by visual similarity and use AI tools for image generation, background removal, and precise image editing.
  • Content & copy assistance – Rewrite, translate, or adjust tone of text layers (shorter, longer, more casual, more professional) directly inside Figma.
  • Smart layout & accessibility checks – AI-powered auto-layout suggestions, spacing, and accessibility checks (contrast, font size) with recommended fixes.

Best Use Cases

  • Rapid wireframing & ideation – Turn requirements or product briefs into first-draft wireframes and flows in minutes.
  • Design system-driven mockups – Generate screens that align with existing tokens, components, and brand styles.
  • Product teams and startups – Compress time from idea to prototype and iterate quickly with AI suggestions.
  • UX writing & localization – Use AI to refine copy, adjust tone by context, and translate interface text.
  • Accessibility & QA passes – Automatically highlight and fix common accessibility and layout issues late in the design cycle.

Pros

  • Native in Figma – No extra plugins or context-switching; AI is built into the standard design workflow and UI.
  • Speeds up tedious work – Auto-layout, wiring prototypes, renaming layers, and copy tweaks become much faster.
  • Good value during beta – Included with existing Figma plans, making experimentation low-friction for teams already on Figma.
  • End-to-end support – Helps from ideation through prototyping, content, accessibility, and handoff (Dev Mode).

Cons

  • Still evolving & limited for some – Some features remain in beta or are gated by region/plan; quality can vary by use case.
  • Not a full replacement for designers – Output often needs significant human refinement, especially for complex or branded systems.
  • Pricing and limits may change – Future GA pricing and usage caps could introduce new costs for heavy AI users.
